#STANDARD NOTES ANDROID CODE#
We use native code from the Libsodium encryption library to achieve high performance. If you would like to build the Android app, you'll need to install the Android NDK.Setup your environment according to official docs and be sure you can run an example React Native project.

This allows us to develop faster, as well as have a more reliable and consistent cross-platform experience. React Native allows us to build native mobile applications using JavaScript. Is transparent about sync status and progress When I open Standard Notes on my phone, theres a little bit of text that counts up. This is a React Native implementation of Standard Notes.

And, it's extensible, so you can backup your notes to Dropbox, Google Drive, and other services, as well as install themes, editors, and more. It encrypts your notes to protect your privacy. It focuses on being simple, so you don't have to fight with endless features that slow you down. Forget “you won’t regret it.” It’s more like “You won’t really think about it, and a bunch of stuff will get easier for you.” Which is, in my view, higher praise.Standard Notes is a safe place for your notes, thoughts, and life's work. If it meets your use case(s), just buy it. Thankfully, the bulletproof stuff is all still there too.Īll in all, I’d be happier if more dev teams did work of this quality. I’m just saying: after you buy it, be aware that there are a few new bells and whistles that are more bleeding-edge than bulletproof.

Again, professional-quality: even when there’s a problem, it doesn’t have to slow you down. And in the meantime, it’s no big deal to just go back to the other older editing modes, and keep carrying on. Now, here’s the thing: given the pace at which they iterated and rolled this out, I imagine it’ll get fixed soon. Lately, that mode has been giving me some trouble: slow loads and even app hangs. In particular, there’s been a spate of development activity around (among other things) a dynamic (WYSIWYG) markdown mode, which is as far as I can tell implemented as a plugin (as are all the various editing modes). I’m writing this review not only to motivate you to buy it, but also because I strongly suspect the devs actually read this stuff, and I want to see it get better. I use it pretty much every work day, mostly for meeting notes, personal brainstorming, and half-finished writing that I want to get back to “later.” Oh, and markdown-aware, which is a great bonus. Ease of use, cross-platform, sync without giving up privacy, it’s in there. We want to make sure we're here, protecting your notes, for the next hundred years.įirst things first: this is a professional-quality app made by people who know what they’re doing.
